Sheet Mulching

When you want to make a garden and you want to do it healthy you can do a quick job without hard work.

 Its quite easy and kind of fun . You can do it any were you want to like on top of the grass and on dry ground . You first have to put some soil on top of the grass or on the dry ground , but the soil must be useful and it must have some compos with to help the proses keep on going. Then on top of that soil you can put some cardboard so that the grass can not grow into your garden and mess everything up. Then after you put your cardboard you have to spray it with water to get everything real wet . After the cardboard you can put some stuff like leaves or compos, plants, sticks or even some more soil, when you are finished with everything you can just dig a small hole till you get the bottom soil and then you can plant all your vegies or plants which you want to plant there.

RG Poaching

We learned how to walk in a line and how to communicate without talking to anyone . We identified a lot of traps and signs that shows that there is some poachers who is poaching on the farm.

 Steps how to deal with a poacher:

1.  ID yourself
2.  ID your Title
3.  Ask his ID
4.  Ask why is he here 
5.  Ask if he has a permit to be there
6.  Disarm the poacher
7.  Arrest the poacher
8.  Question the poacher
9.  Secure the scene
10.  Collect all the evidence there is
11.  Read his rights for him
12.  Take the poacher to the Police station
13.  Open a document
14.  Present the evidence at the Police station
15.  Set a court date
16.  Appear in court at the date you arranged at the Police station

 All the steps must be done without any force and anger . You have to arrest him and you also have to read or say his legal rights to him before you take him to the police station.

RG Inkberry

We took some Inkberry out again to help the animals like the cows and the horses .Because the inkberry will kill them if they eat it , so we cutted all the inkberry and dabbed them as well so they can die . We used some pangas and some Round-Up to help kill the inkberry bushes

Today we were doing some fence checks as well as some identification of Fauna and Flora . In our fire checks this morning we looked at the places were they cutted the grass and were they used the bulldozer to make some fire walls to keep the fire off Sondela.

 We also looked at the kinds of soil we get on some places on Sondela and what kind of trees and animals we will get mostly in that terrain . In the Red soil area we will get a lot of Sekelbushes and in the Turf soil we will get more of the Acasia trees like the Ambrella thorn and the Sentedpot Acasia.

Today we learned how to take care of the Ink bushes and there were certain ways to do that .
 There are 4 ways to take care of a problem plant and that is:

•  Chemical
•  Physical
•  Intergrated
•  Biological

Firstly we cutted the stem of the bushes and then we dabbed them with some Round-Up with colouring mixed into the Round-UP to show were we dabbed them .
 Secondly we sprayed the bushes with spray bottles to see whitch way works the best .When we had to spray the bushes we had to make sure that 70% of the bushes are covert with the Round-Up .

 THE OHS OF THE DAY WE WORKED WITH THE INK BUSHES AND WITH ROUND-UP IS:

•  We had to wear gloves because we are working with poison and if that gets into your sores on your hands or arms it may kill you.
•  When we spray the bushes we had to make sure that no one is close were and when we spray the bushes otherwise we can kill each other with the poison that is being sprayed.

We putted out 12licking blocks out at different places

1.  Water wholes
2. In the bush at the Dip boules

4.  At the big boss's house

FIXING FENCES

Well I've learned a lot about equiptment and how to fix the fence in certain ways . The other day when the Giraffes ran almost the whole fence down we had to go out and fix it. 

 We've putted new wires on the peace were they ran the fence down and we just tighten it with some Gripple's and that was something to learn .

GAME CAPTURING

We have learned a lot about game capturing and how to set up the Boma which we are using to catch the wild animals with .

We had a breathing that morning at 6 o'clock just to make sure that everyone know how to do everything when the alarm goes of to say that the wild animals are inside the Boma and all the sliding doors has to close. We caught some Eland , Gemsbuck , wilde bees , Blesbuck , Impala and some Zebras. It was a lot of fun but also very dangerous . When you are capturing game you have to fear nothing otherwise you will be getting hurt by them because they will do anything to get out of there and not to get into the truck.

GAME DRIVES

The game drives at sondela is one of the best experiences you can get . We will give you more information about a lot of the animals on the farm . We have learned a lot about the animals and about their gestation periods and their reactions in some circumstances .

  We can tell you and also show you the difference between males and females and were they live and what they like to eat . We can show you different animals at sondela like : Eland , Impala , Blesbuck , Gemsbuck , Blue wilde bees , Njala , Giraffe , duiker , Hayena and Koedoe .

SITE GUIDING

We've learned alot this week about trees and plants . We also learned about the roles of plants and trees .They also learned us about the stars and ecology . Everyday of our coarse we learn something new that will help us in our life's

We were very interested in the birds we have learned and we learned a lot about game drives again and about breathings before the game drive begin, they tough us about safety aspects and to remind the guests to take their cameras and their binoculars.


 This week we also learned about insects and scorpions and also snakes that can kill you and which snakes are venomous and which are non venomous. I have also learned about different kinds of venom that animals may have and what it can do to your body.They took us to the bush and they showed us what snakes we get at Sondela and were you can find them at which times.

This week we also learned a lot about the night sky and all the stars and the whole solar system. I know how to get my way south and north at night and I know how to show different stars to other people.

SITE GUIDING

We've learned about game drives and how to entertain the people on it. We all have learned a lot about the animals on the farm as well the farm's roads . It was a great experience to take people on a game drive to tell them more about the animals and all the trees and all types of grass on the farm of  Sondela .
 
 Something new I've learned about the Melkbossie is that it has a milky inside and when you get some of that milk in your body you will get tummy cramps . I've also learned that the animals on Sondela marks of their teritories so that the others will know and smell which animal lives in each section and also the Wilde bees and the Bles buck has something in common about the way they walk. Their heads goes up and down because of the magets inside their noses which causes a vibration and that bothers them a lot and they shake their heads up and down so that the vibration can stop which irritates them.

THE SPIRIT OF THE FIRST YEARS AT SONDELA

All the first years are always very scared of all the people , but after the first week everybody knows were everything is and what to do and whom to talk to . The spirit of the first years will show after the first three weeks and that spirit will show everyone how they are and were you can use them the most.

 When everyone starts with their course , they will be tested . The people who's going to do the best in the work place will be put on full duty at that work place . So when you start your course show everyone in that work place how hard you can work and what you can do the best . Put everything in it when you start because it's your spirit that will depend how you will live your life . Always be neat in your uniform and polish your shoes so that you can be proud of your uniform and your work.

 We are +- 50 students and everyone has a different personality which everyone has to respect and that everyone has to work with . You have to learn how everyone work and what they like to do ,what their strong points and weaknesses are . You have to look at each one's personality to decide whom do you want to work with and whom you want to be friends with . Remember to always look at your own safety and your friends safety in your course were you decide to work . Always be serious in what you do in your work because when you are working with wild animals your work places will become more dangerous .

INTERVIEWS

Interviews at Sondela is one of the best things because they talk about your leadership and how they want you to be and what they want to do with you . They also look at your test points and at your clothes and how neat you are . 

 They ask you what you want to do with your life and what your goals are for your working place. My suggestion is to do your best while you have the change to do it and to be the best in what you can do the best . Sondela showed me that I can do things which I didn't expect I can do . Everyone will help you were they can, and in every interview they will talk to you about your strong points and your weak points which you have to work on.

TESTS AT SONDELA

My tests at Sondela so far is the best in my career , they teach me the right way and everyone will allways help you when you start struggling with things in your coarse. They will help you to communicate better and in the right manner. When I started at Sondela I was terrified because I didn't know what to do because I was stressed , but all the people that works here made me feel at home in two days . The atmosphere makes you relax and everyone is so nice and friendly with everyone, everyone greets you and they like it to talk to you to know you better. When we started the WAP coarse we were like one big family , it's just like we all just klicked in a manner. But the tests are great and I love to study for things I love to do. 

                                                                                                                                               

FIRE FIGHTING

I've learned a lot about fires and how to control them . There is a lot of fires in our country and we need the people who can be there to control the fires and who know the procedures to kill a fire which get out of hand . I've learned how to control a fire and how to kill it very fast to help our nature explore more and that all our animals live without struggling for any food or some water . They also showed us all the different fire distinguishers and how to use them in different situations . Everyday I learn more and more things that can be helpful to our nature and my life! .

FIRST AID LEVEL 1

I met a lot of people and we all worked together like a team.It was a lot fun to work with everyone and to learn how to help people when they struggle with something like choking and when someone gets a heart attack I can help them to keep on living . I have learned to do CPR and how to help people who has fractions and deep cuts . Everything we did was very interesting . Everybody was stressed when we did our practical test because you have to do every thing right the first time and if you fail , then you have to do it again .They also showed us a lot of pictures and they taught us all the rules witch we have to use to help the people who is injured .
